SCHOOL - Sunny Point School, Holbrook, Ritchie County, West Virginia, USA

Notes: Per Mike Spiker in an email dated 22 Feb 2017 -- The location of the Sunny Point School was on the left of Holbrook Rd. going west, in the first sharp turn located approx 1/8 to 1/4 mile from farm house. It got its name from the fact that the sun stayed on the site longer than at most other locations due to the clear meadows in front of it.

Marion Bukey Zinn helped organize the Sunny Point School in 1885. It was originally named the "Bear Run School," then "Lower Bear Run School."

All of Jacob and Gay Zinn Spiker's seven children were schooled there. Son, Bradford Zinn Spiker, taught there. The school closed in 1945.

Neighbor Harvey Shepler (carpenter by trade) tore the school down in the 1950s to repurpose the lumber. [This was during the same time that Harvey was remodeling his own home. We wonder if any of the lumber from our school made its way into Mr. Shepler's farm house.]
